You will join a Mission driven organisation that respects diversity and the dignity of each person, where we foster a supportive environment to keep each other safe. We like to think about the holistic environment in which your working life or life in work takes place, or what we call our Total Rewards approach.

Feedback from caregivers who have worked with us

“This place has the right ingredients and nurturing for personal growth. There is almost a sense of tangible magic that all will turn fine. It is like a well-oiled machine, everyone contributes in little or big ways, seen and unseen. I am most indebted to the staff and residents and the managers are generally kind with their approach and you get the sense that you belong, and are appreciated.”

Dan Eastwood

My name is Dan Eastwood, I'm Manager of Community Development at St John of God Waipuna.

My name is Dan Eastwood, I'm Manager of Community Development at St John of God Waipuna.
Our team are committed to walking alongside the young people we support, connecting them into the community, helping them to feel connected. Our work aims to help the people we support to understand that Waipuna is a safe place for them to come and that even when this program finishes, they can continue to come back here and seek support if they want it. That's hugely important for us. How can we connect them into the community so they've got people around them that can support them, that can help them to realize where they want to go and, and what the possibilities are out there for them.

My name is Shiva and I am the head chef at St John of God Halswell.

I am originally from India making the move to New Zealand 21 years ago, I love our clean, green, country and believe it’s the best place in the world to live! I come from a long career in the food industry, working in cafés, bakery’s, airline kitchens, and restaurants, but none of these have compared to caring and making delicious meals for our residents.

What I love about my role is the respect and care we have for each and every individual within our facility. We are a family here, and I enjoy working with like-minded people who support each other and share the same values. Food is so important to everyone, and it puts a smile on my face being able to serve dishes that supports the happy faces we see around the facility as well as happy tummies.

Malo e lelei, Ni Sa Bula Vinaka!
My name is Margret Lovo, I am of Tongan/Fijian decent, born and raised in Auckland.
I recently joined St John of God in July 2022 as a Nurse Unit Manager, having recently moved to Wellington from Auckland. I have a strong clinical nursing background having specialized in chronic long-term conditions, infectious diseases and specialist wound care.
What interested me about working here was its mission to continue the healing mission of Jesus. As a health practitioner I am passionate about holistic health - viewing a person as more than just a physical body and understanding that there are emotional, spiritual, mental and socio-economic factors that contribute to a person’s overall health and well-being. As a follower of Christ I have learned that the most important healing mission of Jesus was the inner human heart condition. The residents we work with have some of the most beautiful hearts and it is very rewarding being able to be a part of their life journey.

Thomas Pilgrim
Residential Services Manager

Thomas Pilgrim

My name is Thomas Pilgrim I am the Residential Services Manager at St John of God Karori that supports 40 people living with physical and neurological disability.

Kia ora my name is Thomas Pilgrim, I am the Residential Services Manager at St John of God Karori helping support 38 people living with physical and neurological disability & helping support another 12 more residents at Clouston Park.

I got into healthcare at the age of 18 working in a community home in Lower Hutt that housed four men living with a brain injury. This job was an eye opener and my passion for nursing quickly developed from there. I left that organisation as an Enrolled Nurse wanting to further my studies as a Registered Nurse.

Following three years of training at Whitieria, I qualified as a Registered Nurse and worked for six years at Manor Park Private Hospital, a dedicated psychogeriatric facility in the lower North Island. I finished my time there with an abundance of knowledge as Clinical Coordinator.

Over time I have developed a passion for working with people who have compromised autonomy and abilities. Taking on my role at St John of God Karori has been a great opportunity to develop my skills, as well as working alongside a cohort of residents I really enjoy supporting.
